A currency sign is a graphic symbol used as a shorthand for a currency's name, especially in reference to amounts of money. They typically employ the first letter or character of the currency, sometimes with minor changes such as ligatures or overlaid vertical or horizontal bars. Today, ISO 4217 codes are used instead of currency signs for most official purposes, though currency signs may be in common use in many other contexts. Few currencies in the world have no shorthand symbol at all.

The Indian Rupee sign (sign: INR; code: INR) is the currency sign: INR for the Indian Rupee, the official currency of India.
The Naira Sign
First introduced in 1973, the Naira is the official currency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the most populated sub-Saharan country, located in West Africa.
The Pound sign
The pound sign (£ or ₤) is the symbol for the pound sterling—the currency of the United Kingdom (UK).
The Rupee Symbol
"Rupee" is abbreviated as Re. (singular), Rs. (plural) as ₹ (Indian rupee symbol) in the case of the Indian rupee, a combination of the Devanagari letter र (ra) and the Roman capital letter R.
The Russian Ruble Symbol
A currency symbol was used for the ruble between the 16th century and the 18th century. The symbol consisted of the Russian letters "Р" (rotated by 90° counter-clockwise) and "У" (written on top of it). The symbol was placed over the amount number it belonged to. This symbol, however, fell into disuse during the 19th century and onward.
The Ukrainian Hryvnia Symbol
The hryvnia, sometimes hryvnya or grivna (Ukrainian: гривня, pronounced [ˈɦrɪu̯ɲɑ], abbr.: грн (hrn in Latin alphabet)); sign: ₴, code: (UAH), has been the national currency of Ukraine since September 2, 1996. The hryvnia is subdivided into 100 kopiyok. In medieval times, it was a currency of Kievan Rus'.
The Yen Sign
¥ is a currency sign used by the Chinese yuan (CNY) and the Japanese yen (JPY) currencies.
