A Vegvísir (Icelandic 'sign post') is an Icelandic magical stave intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather.

The symbol is shown in the Huld Manuscript within which is a collection of runes and staves drawn by Geir Vigfusson in 1860. The Huld design is a bit different from other more credible manuscripts showing the same symbol, however it has become the most popular through its publication in modern culture.

The origin of the symbol, although unknown, is probably dated between 1650 and 1700 CE.

Along with the symbol the manuscript gives its name and description of purpose (translated from Icelandic) that "if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known".
