Nazar
This page is about the meaning, origin and characteristic of the symbol, emblem, seal, sign, logo or flag: Nazar.
Believed to have originated in modern-day Turkey, the nazar is a type of amulet that can be seen, in varying forms, in countries all around the Mediterranean Sea.
Typically made from glass, the nazar’s primary function is to protect the wearer from evil influences. In this capacity, the amulet is shaped like an eye, a form and function combination that can also be found in other symbols, notably the ancient Egyptian Eye of Horus.
