A share icon is a user interface icon intended to convey to the user a button for performing a share action. It is represented by a less-than sign terminating with dots.
A share icon was introduced in 2006, known as the Share Icon, quad-licensed under the GPL, LGPL, BSD license, and Creative Commons Attribution 2.5, used by ShareThis. ShareThis produces widgets for accessing social networking services from a single pop-up menu. This icon is now trademarked and cause for controversy due to it being subject to take-down notices by ShareThis despite its license.
