The Israel Defense Forces (IDF; Hebrew: צְבָא הַהֲגָנָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל Tzva Hahagana LeYisra'el (help·info), lit. "The Army of Defense for Israel"; Arabic: جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي‎ Jaysh ad-Difāʻ al-Isrāʼīlī ), commonly known in Israel by the Hebrew acronym Tzahal (צה"ל), are the military forces of the State of Israel. They consist of the ground forces, air force, and navy. It is the sole military wing of the Israeli security forces, and has no civilian jurisdiction within Israel. The IDF is headed by its Chief of General Staff, the Ramatkal, subordinate to the Defense Minister of Israel; Rav Aluf Benny Gantz has served as Chief of Staff since 2011.

Israeli Air Force

The Israeli Air Force (IAF; Hebrew: זרוע האוויר והחלל, Zroa HaAvir VeHahalal, "Air and Space Arm", commonly known as חיל האוויר, Kheil HaAvir, "Air Corps") is the air force of the State of Israel and the aerial arm of the Israel Defense Forces. It was founded on May 28, 1948, shortly after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. As of May 2012 its Commander in Chief was Aluf Amir Eshel.

Israeli Armored Corps

The Israeli Armored Corps (Hebrew: חיל השריון‎, Heil HaShiryon) is a corps of the Israel Defense Forces, since 1998 subordinate to GOC Army Headquarters. The Armored Corps is the principal maneuvering corps, and primarily bases its strength on Main Battle Tanks.

Israeli Army Headquarters

The Israeli GOC Army headquarters (Hebrew: זרוע היבשה‎, Zro'a HaYabasha, "Ground Arm"), known unofficially as Mazi, is a multi-corps command headquarters created in 1998, which amalgamates the ground forces of the Israel Defense Forces. The current size of the Israeli Ground Forces is estimated at a rough 125,000 active soldiers and 600,000 soldiers in reserve.

The Israeli Navy (Hebrew: חיל הים הישראלי‎, Heil HaYam HaYisraeli) is the naval warfare service arm of the Israel Defense Forces, operating primarily in the Mediterranean Sea theater as well as the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea theater.
