Gryffindor House

The emblem of Gryffindor House of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the Harry Potter novels, Gryffindor is one of the four school houses that students can be placed in when they arrive at Hogwarts. Named for Godric Gryffindor, one of the original medieval founders of the school, its colors are red and gold and its heraldic device is a lion. The defining traits of members of Gryffindor House are courage, chivalry and bravery.
