Structures composed by small, round and filled circles are some of the oldest ideograms of humankind. They are commonly found, for example, on the Nordic rock carvings and are known as bowl hollows. Recent computer aided research seems to have revealed that these bowl hollows are signs for stars, both planetary and fixed ones.
Three such small forms placed in a triangular form is a common sign in modern Western ideography. It is for instance used on maps to indicate ruins or cultural remains worth seeing.
Swedish seamen, hobos and criminals often have this sign tattooed on the upper side of the hand between the thumb and the forefinger. The signs is known as hobo spots and probably has a protective function in much the same way as the similar Roerich sign  (Group 26). Some sources say the small circles represent faith, hope and love, respectively.
In meteorology  has been used for rain. In modern mining contexts it can stand for silver (compare with  for pawnbroker, and with  for clubs).
In mathematics and geometry can mean therefore, as a result, consequently.
