39:2 · The sign for the element of fire, 28:1, but with a cross added to its top became the most common symbol for phosphorus, a substance that is closely associated with fire. Phosphorus was also drawn 30:14. As phosphorus was not discovered until 1669, 39:2 is in fact an early chemical sign rather than a late alchemical.
