This is a rarely used astrological sign to denote the Part of the Spirit, . It corresponds to , Fortuna or Part of Fortune (see the Word Index). It has been suggested that the Arabs introduced this sign during the Middle Ages. and were calculated from the positions of , , and the ascendant. The Part of the Cross is another of these Arabian parts in the birth chart (horoscope), associated with disease and death. The position of the Part of the Cross was calculated from the positions of , , and the ascendant.
The Part of the Heart finally, was associated with love and relationships. Its position was calculated from the positions of , , and the ascendant.
According to Robert Hand (see the bibliography in Part III) the Arabian parts originate from ancient Greece despite being called Arabian parts.
