One of the alchemists' signs for realgar. See for further information on realgar. It has also been used for litharge, the yellow or reddish protoxide of lead partially fused. It is much used in the manufacture of glass, enamel, varnishes, paints, and insecticides.

According to Diderot's Encyclopedia this sign meant sel armoniac.
