This is the Mantuan cross. The version here shown is the Eisernes Kreuz, the Iron Cross, a German Order medal. The order was inaugurated by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia in the year 1813, and intended to unite and encourage his people in their fight against Napoleon's French armies.
This cross is used by the German navy. During the First World War it appeared as a battle sign on the sides of German tanks, fighter aircraft, etc.
It has also been used as a fascist symbol, for example, in France.
This type of cross was used on the Portuguese flag, on Portuguese fighter jets, etc. during the period of fascism that ended with the revolution in 1974.
