When the line in the circle is horizontal but does not touch the circumference the sign becomes a negative unit or something negative in a closed room. Falling pressure (in a tank), negative ion and negative pole are three of its meanings in modern ideography.
As a traffic symbol the structure is a sign for stop, one-way traffic only.
