A sign sometimes used by alchemists to denote saffron.
A similar structure is  , which is not really an ideogram but the form of some huge fortified camps built in the Viking era around 1000 A.D. on five or six places in Denmark and southern Sweden. Each square is composed by four huge houses. The cross is two crossing roads, and the circle is a palisade or stockage with a diameter of about 1,000 metres and four gates. All these camps were burned within a hundred years after they had been built.
