The heptagram, a sevenpointed star, is an obvious development of , once it was discovered. The number seven is well known in Western symbolism. The traditional seven planets (the wandering celestial bodies as opposed to the fixed stars) were associated with seven celestial spheres, thus the old expression "to be in seventh heaven".
The diatonic scale has seven tones: do, re, mi, fa, so, la, si. All through the Old Testament are examples of the significance of the number 7.
The four phases of the moon took 29 days, i.e. a little more than 7 days each. The menstruation cycle of women is about the same number of days: four times 7. God created the world in 6 days and rested on the seventh, the day of the Sabbath. Seven years is the length of each of the four phases of the planet Saturn in relation to its position in the birth chart or horoscope: separating square, opposition, approaching square, and conjunction.
