On instrument panels and machines this ideogram can indicate that a function is manually operated. Compare with the  entry sign above in this group, which is rather antonymous. The sign  means hybrid, i.e. a crossbreed. Can this sign semiotically be interpreted as symbolizing a sort of crossbreed of man and machine?
