When Z appears in a more or less haphazard collection it becomes a "sound iconic" or "auditorial" sign for sleeping used in comic strips. It is usually drawn above or around the mouth or head of the character supposed to be sleeping.
A row of Z:s can also represent a humming sound such as some insects or machines would make.
