Here we have a prehistoric ideogram that has been adopted and become common in modern ideography. In some meteorological systems it has been used to signify white frost. In both the US and the Swedish systems of hobo signs it means a night's shelter given here. The same sign used by English tramps, however, means invalids live here show sympathy.
In other situations this sign can be used to represent an open vessel. In its closed form,  , it can be found on maps to denote a big farm or manor house.
