This sign appears in the earliest known rune alphabet and is possibly associated with moose. In the Middle Ages  was used on the clog almanacs, to denote holidays related to Virgin Mary.
In the family system (see  in Group 41:b), stands for man.
In aerometeorology the same sign can mean light icing.
Nowadays it is most commonly found representing inlet for antenna depicting a movement downward,  , into an appliance, or a reaching out upwards, or both.
