The fourpointed star, or sun star, denotes, according to Koch (see
bibliography), a serious and solemn warning. Compare with
, the logotype for NATO. In this logotype
was combined with
, the symbol used by
the recently defeated German Wehrmacht. (NATO was formed in 1949.) But
the Americans used the mirror image of the Hakenkreuz and straightened
it out a bit to
.
I the Euphrates-Tigris region
in the form
represented the highest god, the sun god
Shamash. Assyrians all over the world recognize a fourpointed star
sign as their ethnic symbol. As such it is often drawn with a circle
in its middle and with wavy lines emanating diagonally from between
the star's points. See

In Christian symbolism
is the crux
stellata, the
star cross.
Note also that

was
the logotype of the biggest bank of its time in the United States,
