Symbol 14:12

1431

14:12 · The question mark is similar in structure to the augurs' or soothsayers' staff. Ideographically, the sign is a combination of the ideogram for a complete wave, 1401a, stood up in a vertical position, which symbolizes the contact between the material actuality down here and the spiritual possibilities up there, with an emphasizing point or dot below.
Where in texts the exclamation mark's straight vertical line for one-ness and truth indicates that the preceding words are to be taken seriously indeed, the question mark's wavy vertical line indicates that the preceding words have no one-ness or truth, but so to speak oscillate between possibilities.
Semiotically this ideogram can be interpreted as asking: "Which is the true fact of all the possible ones (in the world of ideas above us)? What is the fact down here in this world of matter?"
In chess 1431 means a bad or questionable move. The question mark is used to indicate uncertainty, apprehension, or danger in many different situations, especially in comic strips and advertising.
